Fantasy Sports Girl: FANTASY RACING - Martinsville 3.28.08

After taking Easter Sunday off, the teams are back in action on the short track at Martinsville. Let’s check out who’s primed for victory lane and who’ll be stuck in the pits in this week’s Fantasy NASCAR 90. First up, Jimmie Johnson. He’s won the last three races at Martinsville and has to be the favorite this weekend. It’s been a disappointing season for last year’s champ, but it would be no surprise to see him walk away with the Longcase Clock on Sunday. Jimmie’s teammate, Jeff Gordon, has his share of Martinsville checkered flags, too. Between them, the Hendrick drivers have won six of the last seven races at the track. The wonder boy has been less than wonderful in ‘08, but his seven career wins at the paper clip shouldn’t be overlooked. The only guy to break up the Hendrick domination was Tony Stewart in ‘06. This week, Smoke took a break from whining about tires to wax his back…for charity, I should add. On a short track, every split second counts, so a smoother Stewart could slip through to victory. For my darkhorse, I’m going with Juan Pablo Montoya. The Colombian’s still looking for his first top-ten of the year, but ran well in his two Martinsville appearances last season. He’s climbing the points ladder and a Sunday win would vault him up even higher. For the guys to avoid, let’s start with Carl Edwards. I’m going with my head over my heart on this one. His recent run left my heart racing, but facts are facts: he’s never had a top-ten on this track. With results like that, cousin Carl’s getting no love from this fantasy sports girl. Another big name to avoid is Kevin Harvick. Sure, he’s struggled at Martinsville with a lifetime best of 7th place, but i’m ignoring him for a different reason: his fundraising efforts resulted in a shirtless and waxed Tony Stewart. Great for charity, bad for my eyes. Well, that’s all the fantasy sports news I’ve got for today. Now, get back to work! And be sure to check out more videos at fantasysportsgirl.com!
